MIDITrail is a MIDI player that offers a unique 3D visualization of MIDI data sets. It goes beyond just listening to music, allowing you to visually experience the music as well. The software supports various MIDI formats such as Standard MIDI File (format 0/1), CoreMIDI, and multiple MIDI ports. One of the great aspects of MIDITrail is its availability across different platforms, including Windows, macOS, and iOS.

As an optional feature, MIDITrail provides an immersive VR (virtual reality) experience by using affordable VR glasses for smartphones and an iPhone game controller.

In order to use MIDITrail on iOS, there are a few requirements to consider. Firstly, your device must have iOS 12.0 or later installed. Additionally, you will need to prepare your MIDI files in advance. This can be done by transferring the MIDI files from your Mac or PC to your iOS device. To do so, simply connect your iOS device to your computer and launch iTunes. From there, you can transfer the necessary files using the 'File Sharing' feature. Alternatively, you can also add MIDI files directly to MIDITrail through the Files App on iOS.

Another aspect to consider is the sound module you wish to use with MIDITrail. The software is compatible with sound modules that support Core MIDI. Additionally, it can utilize an internal wavetable synthesizer for generating sound. There are three recommended methods for connecting the sound module:

  1. Connect a MIDI interface device and an external sound module (e.g., iRig MIDI, i-MX1).
  2. Utilize a Synth App that supports 'Virtual MIDI Port' and 'Background Mode' (e.g., KQ Sampei, bs-16i, Sound Canvas for iOS).
  3. Utilize the internal wavetable synthesizer by transferring the necessary wavetable file (DLS/SF2) to your iOS device beforehand.
